Big Family, Small Home: Making the most of Tight Spaces

Smaller spaces are appealing to some for their warmth and coziness. These merits can be overlooked when all you stumble across is clutter. Here is a handy guide to making a big difference in the way rooms in a home feel.
Inventory your possessions – Make sure that small spaces are not left idle, put away articles that are not used very often. Make a list of the items and sort them.
Spot your spaces – With the above list in hand, take a walk through the house, and categorize dead spaces that are sure to abound. Be sure to match places with what could fit in them plausibly. The idea is to avoid creating an eyesore with items and ill-fitting spaces. For example, display cases that make use of corners to put up books or heirlooms is a good idea. Entrance hallways are a good place to hang up coats that are worn frequently so as not to strain closets. Hall benches that have lids can open up to accommodate shoes as well.
Armoires in the living room can be used to store electronic and other recreational equipment. Coffee tables with built in drawers are perfect for storing magazines. In the kitchen, vertical dividers that lower cabinets and wire organizers attached behind cabinet doors also enhance storage space. Stackable containers for dry goods create more space. In the bedroom, underneath the bed boxes is a great place to store out of season attire. Adding a waist level-hanging rail for handbags and scarves also doubles your storage capacity in the closet. Chests at the foot of the bed are ideal for blankets and sweaters. Above the toilet cistern, vanities are available for extra personal hygiene products in the bathroom.
Get creative – Taking a creative look at ones home will bring up some new space expansion options. Garages offer such options if arranged better. Side and rear walls can be used to hang up stepladders, bicycles and a range of other things on big hooks. If your house has a porch, unused flowerpots, and small gardening tools can be stored underneath your deck for the winter, erecting timber lattices to conceal the items until needed. Taking stock of your possessions and unused spaces will help identify things you do not need, therefore enabling you to make it a decision to either get rid if them or donate them to charity.
