pet.jpgWith all the big words being used in television and media today like global financial crisis, greater depression, and economic fallout many people are focused more on the home foreclosures than they are the forgotten victims of home foreclosure.  Homeowners who have pets are often forced to leave their pets behind when their homes are foreclosed on.  These pets are forced into local shelters and are often put to sleep do the simple lack of homes.

Not everyone has forgotten the small victim of the home foreclosure crisis.  HFP or Help Foreclosure Pets is an online resource available to homeowners, real estate agents, real estate investors, and even banks who are faced with the situation where a pet has been left behind in a foreclosed home.  The website connects people who are willing to adopt and foster parent pets within a given community.  Local volunteers are urged to post their contact information in a formum setting in addition to the services they are able to provide.

For homeowners, real estate agents, real estate investors, and banks who find animals within the foreclosed home and have no local sectors of the help foreclosure pets community, the local pet shelter may be able to provide a home for the pet.  It is essential that pets found inside of the foreclosed home are taking care of and not simply dropped in some vacant location.

For real estate agents, real estate investors and banks who find pets inside a foreclosed home that have not been given proper care, the previous homeowners may be held accountable legally for intentional harm to a pet.  The name and last known address should be reported to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, also known as the ASPCA.

Foreclosure and financial crisis is difficult on everyone involved.  Just because a homeowner can not keep a pet when forced to move from their home does not give them the right to leave that pet behind possibly allowing the pet to die inside the foreclosed home.  Pet ownership does not end with foreclosure.
