Things to Ask Your Potential Neighbors Before Buying a House

The house may look great and the neighborhood may be pretty, but don’t jump in to signing those closing papers just yet. There are still things you need to know about the area before you can be sure you want to live there. Take some time first to find out that your dream neighborhood doesn’t turn out to be a nightmare on Elm Street. You’ll be glad you did.
1. Ask people who live in the neighborhood some important questions. First, find out how long they’ve lived there, so you can know how knowledgeable they are about the neighborhood. It will also tell you if people tend to stay in the neighborhood for a long time or if they leave quickly.
2. Ask if the neighborhood is quiet or if there are any problem neighbors. This is key information you’ll want to know. You can also find out more about the noise levels in the neighborhood by visiting it on your own at different times of the day on different days of the week.
3. Ask the best and worst things about the neighborhood. Usually, people will be more than willing to share on both accounts.
4. Find out if the neighbors knew who lived in your potential house before you. If they did, find out if any strange things went on at the house, if any unknown additions or modifications were made to the home, and if there are any problems with the property you should know about.
Just taking the time to ask your potential neighbors some pertinent questions can make a huge difference in how much you enjoy living in your new neighborhood. It can also help you avoid buying in a place in which you’re likely to have problems. With a little help from the people who live nearby, you can take that extra step to make sure you enjoy your new home to the fullest.
