Falling in Love With the House

Published by julia | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Miscellaneous, Real Estate

When people walk into the right house, they just know it.  There is something about the house that just makes it so much their house.  They have fallen in love with the house.  Most of us have experienced it at least once in our lives, that instant love for a location.  It’s not that romantic love we feel, like we do when we find that “one”, but it is still a type of love that lets us know that this is it, this is the right house.  It is unfortunate, but true, that just as so many people can fall out of love with “the one” they can also fall out of love for their house.

Unless people are moving for a new job or a new lack of a job, they are moving because they do not like the house any more.  This may have to do with a change in neighborhood values and demographics, or more likely it has to do with the house.  Some families simply outgrow the house, but still love it and that’s okay.  They simply move on to a new house that they love that is big enough for their family.  Some families just find that the perfect house they had doesn’t seem so perfect anymore.

For those families who think that the house just isn’t as good as it was, it may simply be a change in the house they need rather than a change of houses.  This can be anything from the complete remodeling of a main room in the house, such as a kitchen or living room, to the simple redecorating and repainting of a couple rooms.  A good home decorator and maid can be a lot cheaper and more effective than a whole new house in situations like this.

If it is the décor of the home that is throwing off the love for the house, falling in love with a new house and moving in will only be a temporary fix.  If the décor stays the same, the feeling of dissatisfaction will continue until the décor is gone.  If the décor is fine but the home is messy or cluttered, a good maid can help organize and clean the house, making it easier to maintain and nicer to live in. This can greatly improve one’s feeling about the house and keep the love that grew in the house, alive in the house.
