Buying A Home

Published by julia | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Finance, Miscellaneous, Real Estate

You’ve thought about if it for some time, and family and friends have been urging you the same: it’s time to own a house. You have carefully weighed the pros and cons and you’re convinced! It will be more advantageous to start paying for your own home than to continue paying for your rent. Before you buy a house, at least be very certain of your decision first.

The best way to start is to search the internet for available houses on sale. This is a good place to begin your search since there are available pictures of the exterior and interior of the house, as well as photographs of different rooms. You can browse through virtual tours while reading through some descriptions and features of the house. Having browsed through all these, you can now narrow down your options to a specific house type. Likewise, you now have an idea how much it would cost.

Searching through the web can help you identify the neighborhood you want to be in. You can check the places and know a little something about the district. It will also help if you know the nearest mall, hospital and other commercial buildings in the area.

Let your real estate agent know exactly what you want in a home, and your budget of course. In order to avoid wasting time, let him show you houses of your specification. Do not be sidetracked by seeing too many homes, or houses that are not within your budget range or parameters. Besides, even if they fall within your specification, you won’t be able to retain every detail about them. About 7 in a day will do fine. However, at least make your decision in a matter of week or two. Shorter will be better.

Don’t shop till you drop in your home shopping. This is not clothes, shoes and apparel shopping. If you like it in a price that you expect, just buy it. You don’t have to weary yourself in seeing 30 or more before making the final decision.

To help you decide, jot down in a small notebook the details and features of the houses. Single out the unique features that really caught your attention. Take some pictures of the exterior and interior. Observe your neighborhood. Is it peaceful? Is the surrounding area pleasant to the sight? It might help if you give each home a rating. You can make up your own rating system such as poor-fair-average-good-excellent, or you can give each a 10 point scale, with 10 as the highest.

You’ve seen about a dozen homes or so. Most likely, there are a couple of homes from the selection that you like the most. Go out and check them one more time. There might be some things you haven’t noticed the first time you saw them.
