Little contribution that you make on your household such as minimizing energy and water usage, creates a chain of events which ends up more on your savings and later be used during rainy days! I have gathered some saving tips for you and small ways to help our environment.
Saving Energy 101
- Shutting off home appliances when you do not use them but you do much saving better when you unplug the devices completely.
- Make sure that Computers or Laptops are off totally and not just on a sleeping mode.
- Use Compact Fluorescent Lights instead of incandescent bulbs. Keep the lights and shades clean, all the time.
- Think about using 3-way lamps with switches. This way you can control the light at its minimum.
- Use desk lamps as an alternative instead of using the entire room lights.
- Use air-conditioning with timers and change filter frequently.
- Make use of the shades especially during night time when its cooler rather than using air-condition.
- Did you know that microwave open uses just about 2/3 less power consumption than your stove? Use microwave.
- Dishwasher consumes lesser water instead of washing dishes by hand. Save more by letting the dishes air-dry.
- When you are cooking make sure that the pot you use fits the burner. It saves gas and makes cooking better and faster.
- If you are washing only a few garments, do not set the washing machine on an entire cycle.
- Turn-off heating when nobody’s in the house.
- Refrain from using fireplaces when your heating system is on. Make sure that the fireplace lid is closed when the fire is out.
- Lower down the thermostat in your heater to its least settings when the family is away for more than 2 days.
Little Effort on Water Conservation
- Check you water consumption bills for abnormal sky-high usage.
- When you shave or brush your teeth, keep the faucet closed.
- Washing the dishes with the water running is big NO.
- When you need to thaw your meet or frozen foods, doing it on running water does not help you save.
- Ironing, Washing clothes and your dishes must be done during off-peak hours.
- When you bathe, it saves water when you do the brushing of your teeth at the same time.
- Use bucket while waiting for the water to heat up in the shower. Use that water bucket later for other purpose rather than letting the water in the shower run while checking its temperature.
- Pay close attention for leaking and dripping faucets. Also, educating your family on little ways to save like by simply turning off the faucets after each use.
- Even when you are outside your home, like in a hotel, try reusing your towels.
- When your little kids wants to cool down and you are using the sprinkler. Make sure that it falls on the lawn when you needed it watered. Your pets can be washed on the lawn area that needs to be watered.
Try this simple list! Following this can be done in a snap of a finger. We do this chores every single day, when you consistently do things, ordinary and little things to help conserve. It makes your effort and savings even more valuable!
