Talk to Neighbors Before Buying a Home

Published by cravat | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Miscellaneous, Real Estate, Shout Outs, Uncategorized

You can say so much about an area simply by driving through it. Well maintained laws and well-kept homes is a sign of pride of ownership. Old and rubbish cars parked on untrimmed lawns and dirty mattresses at the curb are signs of decomposing. Though, if you depend on these signs alone, you could face a vulgar awakening when you transfer in.

Not only will meeting and talking to the neighbors give you a better perspective of whether you will be likely suited but neighbors will reveal details that a seller or owner might not conveniently forget.

Meeting the Neighbors

When a newly-wed couple found their dream home, they are thrilled. It had all they sought after, the neighborhood, area, updates and a quaint yard. The cost was worth it, too. Immediately after signing the contract, you head and drove to meet the neighbors. Only to find out that, one neighbor talk about the basement floods on a recurring times and seemed anxious that the sump drained water into their yard. The owner’s disclosure never mentioned a drenched basement. The other neighbors were deliberately unfriendly. They pointed out the rose bushes, that appears to grow on the buyer’s property and said they had planted them.

It was obvious that the neighbors on both ends of this property had a bone to pick with the current seller and you would probably end up buying another property in another neighborhood.

Neighbors can be difficult

Another couple was conducting a home inspection when they accidentally met the neighbors from across their street. As their agent was turning off the lights in the property, she noticed an SUV had driven up on the lawn of this home. The agent went outside to check. The driver seemed angry and shouting so many words.

This was not even the potential buyer’s car. It was somebody else’s car that had parked more or less six inches over the neighbor’s driveway. The couple were not about to live across the street from this guy. They eventually cancelled the purchased contract.

These are just a few scenarios that are not made up but realities that you have to highly consider when purchasing a property.

Before You a Home, Ask this:

·         You have lived in this neighborhood for how long?

·         The best that you like in this neighborhood is?

·         The least that you like in this neighborhood is?

 ·         Do all the neighbors live harmoniously?

·         Can you tell me the crime area in this neighborhood?

 ·         Anything serious happened here?

·         How quiet is the neighborhood? Are there nuisances?

·         Do you know why the seller is selling this house?

 ·         What has the owner of this house complained about to you?

You will be shocked what the neighbors might tell you and what you could discover. You may never that it might save you from making an awful buying mistake and transferring into a neighborhood where you could be depressed down the road.

When selling your property, if conditions warrant, make amends with the neighbors before placing a sign in the yard or putting your property in the market. Because agents, will always tell the buyers to talk to the neighbors before fully committing to buy.
