Overcoming different decorating styles in creating a home

A reader once says; my wife and I have a totally different discrimination when it comes to decorating our home. She is more into fashionable furniture whereas I am more inclined to conventional styles. Now that we just got married, we are both trying hard to make a home together but still struggling, what design and furniture that would blend in both of our styles and still make sense to look at. The clashes between ones design into the other makes argument come up pretty often. What should we do?

I told them, do not fret too much. This is a very typical problem. Your individuality makes your relationship more enticing, so you both need to embrace them. The best option is to blend in together as best as you both can. Only this requires even more practice, patience and more and more creativity with your designs.

In the aspect of deciding on furniture for your home, you may want to consider a little dark wood set in your dining area but to give it more twist, which would definitely make your wife happy, you could splash in some bright white or metallic green. You could also have silky drapes with a more casual feathery sofa in microfiber.

Your wife would appreciate meeting her halfway. Remember, you cannot get what you always want but neither can your wife. The entire compromising 50/50 idea really comes to take part in here. You are in charge of the affiliation, which only means you and your wife needs to agree half the time. You both need to come into terms with both of your creativity and decision on your designs.

But when you comprise does not mean you both, need to sacrifice. For instance, having a stool and wanting it in different vivid colors, would not totally defies of your own wants. Both of you will need to give up and sacrifice and still meet halfway.

You can always start in going to bookstores together and browse thru magazines or books. Utilize the power of the internet, there it can show you several ideas in a room and which furniture you both find appealing. Afterwards, you help each other by determining which pieces you both prefer and both of you could live. Also find ways were you could change the designs or make some changes with few of your furniture to please you and your partner. In the end, when you look at your house, it is something you can both be proud of.
