Understanding the rules of interior decorating can be as hard as a rock or as wide to someone’s interpretation of the sky. But many experts agree that understanding the rules can be the initial step in being able to break free towards those rules when it is needed. Try to remember some of these:

·         Draw your floor plan and put in record the room dimensions, window sizes and placement, location of outlets and electrical. Bring your floor plan when you shop.

·         Find time to discover your personal taste by reading design magazines, browsing online, viewing show rooms to be able to learn what designs and colors you like.

·         Identify the important point of the room.

·         Identify the room’s style in writing and you need to be specific.

·         Choose a signature piece on which you can focus on your decoration decisions. It could be a painting, a woven fabric, a carpet or a rug, an old pottery, dishes, etc. This one item should represent both the scheme on the colors of the room, as well as the style and mood you wanted to generate.

·         Coordination of fabric and flooring choices before you make any final purchases and before finalizing the exact paint colors.

·         Avoid purchase large furniture, rugs, draperies, whenever possible and make use of the exact style and color of those important pieces to coordinate all other decisions on your purchases.

·         Explore in mixing patters. It could be a large scale or a small scale, whether it is stripes, checks, geometrics, plain when designing a room.

·         Allow for natural pathways in a room like from the door to the walk-in closet and then try to position furniture with those walkways in your head.

·         Think about the main use and functionality of a room before choosing and purchasing furniture and arrangements. For instance, if your dining area will also be your small office or study, then you will need room for tables, reference books, lighting and a few files and also the dining room table and chairs.

·         Check and consider using the same elements such as wood tone, trim color, motifs, fabrics, flooring and any other materials.

·         The principle of repetition when designing and planning shapes, fabrics, colors and patterns. For instance, a red accent in a room may look like it was overly placed in one area, whereas, placing several read accents here and there will contribute to the scheme.

·         Plan your appropriate task; the general and dramatic lighting fixtures and also use some mix designs. Use dimmers for a maximum organization of lights.

·         And above all purchase the upmost quality furniture and fixtures you can afford. Do research and learn more about quality construction and items or materials that can extend the life of furniture and make it a better investment for you in the long run.
