Before you even get started and jump into painting a part of your house, why don’t you test these painting tips and it will guarantee to make your work much easier and will definitely give an impression that it was done by a pro.

A.    What is your Color?

This is the most difficult part, knowing and choosing what color you like. It will help you do that by finding the right color that creates and enhances your mode.

1.     If you don’t have any idea about your color preferences, try getting a color from a painting, for example or a rug that is in the room. It is a sure way to know a color that will compliment.

2.     Bring home some paint chips and check how they will look in the room. Try to hold them to the furniture, cabinets, floors or anything that is in the room.

3.     Pick up a sample pot of each color that you chose and paint a large square on the wall

4.     Look at how the color varies as the sun moves across the sky and changes on the amount of light in the room.

B.    Trying Several Colors

Using more than one color in the room, try these tips:

1.     If you have a chair rail and you prefer to color the top and lower part of the walls several colors it is great to apply a darker shade on the bottom part and lighter on top. As the lighter color stands out, the dark one will have a base effect.

2.     To highlight trim, color it a darker tone and it will make the area feel much inviting, coloring it a lighter tone will make a spacious feeling.

C.    Color Effects

It is always nice to see a perspective outside the box. Do not be scared to try to test other color effects. There are so many ways you can mix and match several colors and be stuck in one color for the wall, you can every try to do some effects with different finishes.

D.    Finishes

You found the perfect design matching with the color, now you need to choose your finishes. Let me points some:

1.     Satin and Eggshell – very trendy for walls, having a very slight shine and very easy to clean.

2.     Flat – giving you a matte finish which is great for concealing walls with some marks since it does not mirror back the light. Flat finishes are great in hiding imperfections.

3.     Semi Gloss and Glossy – are perfect for holding up in cleaning. Both of these finishes are glossy that is why they are popular for trim.

E.    How much is the Paint Required

Measure the wall’s width in the room and multiply the height of one area or wall from floor to ceiling. Get the total and subtract the total measurement of all the doors and windows. This provides you the precise area of wall space you require to paint. General rule is that flat area usually needs one gallon for every 400 square feet but still depends on how coatings you will require to do.
