Usually occupants in an apartment throw their garbage and recyclables down the hallways or stairs, on the fire exit area or outside the building. Still, you need to know where are the areas inside your apartment to place your trash or unwanted items.

The answer to handling your trash properly is to get the correct number of trash bins and know where to put each one. You need to know where to empty your garbage and how to discard  them permanently. But do you know what type of trash bins do you need? Here are some guidelines you may find helpful:

Recycling and Discarding Trash

1. Place garbage bins on bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Many people do not bother placing garbage bags or liners for these rooms since the typical trash are paper goods that are not messy and does not spill, it is easier to throw the trash from the bin directly to a larger bag for permanent disposal.

2. Entryways, hallways, living and dining rooms does not need any trash bins as this may only obstruct the passage area, it can easily be hit around. If you’re unit is big enough to have a living and dining area, trash cans are not appropriate on those areas. If you have guests, typically the trash bin in the kitchen area is to be used.

3. Kitchen requires exceptional attention. This is the area in the house that has the dirtiest kitchen garbage because it is where you throw all types of food. Make sure that you have a stand-alone bin or place it where you can hide in a low cabinet.

4. Kitchen is a perfect and reasonable place where you can store your recycling bins, if possible near your kitchen’s trash bin. 5. If you have a nursery room, it needs a proper diaper disposal. Majority of the garbage in a nursery are dirty diapers and wipes. There are a lot of diaper disposal systems available on the market that helps you dispose items such as that in a least fuss and lesser smell.

If you opt not to use such system, there are kitchen type garbage bags that are scented. Make sure that your trash bins has covers to eliminate any odor coming from the bin. In addition to your covered trash bin, you should get a box of large garbage bags. These will aid you when it is time to collect garbage from your apartment to bring down the hall or outside your building. Store those bags under the kitchen sink or pantry shelf for easy access when needed.
