Frequently, an occupant does not ask needed questions to make sure that their move to a new apartment will go easily. If you do not know all the information needed, you may want to go through with it first before setting a date when to move or deal with hassle that will simply add to your worries.

Being prepared for your move in date, collate all the solutions to your questions about our new place. I have listed down a few questions commonly asked to any landlord, agents or manager before you start planning your move but often overlooked.

Issue #1 –  Do You Know your Moving hours?

Most of the buildings limits to a specific time of the day especially during rush hour. It could probably done early morning or late evening. Rules may be different if your unit is situated in ground floor since you will not be using the elevator or stairwell. When you have all the information and the limits, you can plan your move accordingly with any movers or truck rental.

Issue #2 – Designated Elevator for moving?

A freight or service elevator is often used for moving in tenants or any delivery in a building, in addition to a passenger elevator. Landlords usually require lessee to use such elevator to avoid inconvenience to other tenants, this also prevents damaging the elevator with any large pieces of furniture that you need to bring in. Using the special elevator may entail you to coordinate with the building administrator or security to have access to it.

Issue #3 – Where is the Assigned Entrance for Moving?

Buildings usually has several entry point, either on the side or back entrance, your landlord may require you to use that for your move. This again prevents you any cause of damage in the lobby area that can be acquired during the transfer from heavy or sharp items. An alternate entrance may be wider and have no steps for easy transfer.

Issue #4 – Elevator, Stairwell, Hallways, Door Dimensions?

If your furniture like your sofa or couch are long that you cannot dismantle, you need to know if the passage, the entry area and including the lift with fit all through to your unit.  Get the measurements and be certain that any bulky items of yours can fit through instead of finding out during the move in date itself.

Issue #5 – Reserve a Time for Moving Day?

There are buildings that require a lessee to sign a form to reserve a day for their transfer. Building administrators sometimes allows only a certain number of moves to be done in a day, being able to control congestion and trouble to other tenants.

Issue #6 – Where to Park?

If you hired a professional mover to help you or you are just moving in yourself, you need to know where you can park. You need to be able to park as close as possible to the entrance, if the building has a designated parking lot, know where can your truck park. If you are parking on the streets, know its boundaries for the day and time you are planning to move.

When you have all the answers to these basic questions, it will give you peace of mind and avoid bad surprises and let you enjoy the transfer to your new home.
