Decorating Don’ts – Part I
Published by cravat | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Miscellaneous, Real Estate, Shout Outs, Uncategorized
You can read a lot of books, magazines, research materials, watch shows on TV or even go to decorating exhibits to be updated on all sorts of basic interior designing advices and how to design your home elegantly in the simplest way.
Remember all those tips or advices can sometimes be too much and it can be difficult to digest all of them all of the same time and know the things that you need to avoid before you start designing your home.
You want to know what should not be done, not now, not in the future? Here is the list:
1. Do not Allow Someone Pick Options for You
Your new home is your own private space. Do not allow someone else dictates what you need to do. If you feel you need assistance, ask for opinions. But when its time to make choices they should be yours alone. Because it is your home, you have to make sure that you feel comfortable with the design.
2. Do not Put Any Coat
The first thing that you need to decide on first is what fabric to use, carpet to buy and upholstery that matches. After, you can then buy paint in all colors and even paint mixed in any possible color you like.
3. Do not Choose Paint Color from a Paint Chip
A paint sample in a piece of chip may look perfect in a fluorescent light in a store but if you use in an entire wall, the effect can be different. When you are choosing on a color, initially buy a quart of the color first and paint a small portion and check how the color would looks in a room using natural light. Try painting it in a cardboard if you do not want to mess up on your wall.
4. Do not Choose Paint Color in a Store.
Get your fabric, your flooring or paint probably on your second or third visit not on your first. Try to get samples of paint and swatches of fabric so you can compare and look when it is on your home. Use both natural light and night lamps to see all effects and the one that fits best.
5. Do not Agree For The Common if you Prefer to be Bold
If you love to express yourself with color, remember that a gallon of red paint cost the same as a gallon of white. Do you get my point? Do not be scared of articulating who you are and mix up the design with what you love.
6. Do not use your Favorite Color as your Core Color
If your favorite color is red, you do not have to paint it on all your walls. Rather, you get a more lighter shade to give a nice background that will let you furniture or items really stand out in the color that you love .
7. Do not disregard the Psychology of Colors
If you are using bold colors such as red and would like to see and feel calmness in a room, I do not think you can achieve by using such. Learning the colors to choose to bring you relaxing feeling will do the trick. Depending on the room, choose a color that suits best in that area of the house.
8. Do not Overlook the Undertone Colors
Not all shade of red is red. Not all blue is blue. See more beside the main color to see if the shade is lighter or darker, too hard or flat. Select coordination shades having the similar appeal.
9. Do not Push a Color Plan
If you are doing everything as a match, don’t. Only because you have a specific color plan like a red sofa does not mean it will match another red item in your house. Identify the major pieces, know what items to put and where to place it and harmonize all the items. Eliminate anything that does not match your plan.
10. Do not Disregard the Main Area of Your Room
Not every room has a main area but if your room has one, make it special, important. Put a painting or furniture around this area and will remind you that every time you go to that specific place, that is yours and yours alone.
