Decorating Don’ts – Part II

Published by cravat | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Miscellaneous, Real Estate, Shout Outs, Uncategorized

Decorating is exciting! That is why I am adding more tips on the things you need to stay away on designing and have a place you just love to come home to.

1.     Do not Put a Furniture That would Cover the Walls

Arranging sofa, tables and chairs all around an area in your house or in your home is a big no, no, not unless you no longer have any options left. Put furniture together for example when you have guests who would like to visit you for small talks, you can pull pieces of the furniture in the room for a closer feeling of comfort.

2.     Do not Put up any Obstruction

Do not place chairs in front of a door or in an area that would cause obvious traffic. Make the room simple with easy access and more area to move around.

3.     Do not Prefer Cheap Items all the time

Do not get a piece of furniture because it has nice cover or a lively color. Check very well if it well made, with interesting details or classic lines. If it does, you can always recover the upholstery in a fabric you choose or re-polish the frame.

4.     Do not Buy only if it’s in Fashion

Do not smash your budget on to a piece of furniture that is only in fashion. Fashion only come and go. You may want to consider investing on furniture or pieces that stays for a long time. If you are fascinated with furniture that is covered with crystals, try using less expensive and too loud embellished lampshade or items.

5.     Do not Use Mismatched Pieces

If you were given too many pieces that does not simply fit in your home; look for a way to put them together in your decorating scheme. Paint odd wooden furniture frames to match or get pillows and upholstery with fabrics that harmonize with the décor.

6.     Do not Spend on Useless Expensive Pieces

If you just feel the urge of buying expensive furniture for your home just for the heck of it and you know that those items will not last long. I suggest that you keep your money in your back, save your money for items that is only needed.

7.     Do not Store Pieces Because You Think You Need to

Do not think that you are compelled to store items that you have inherited. If it does not fit in your home, you have at least two options: either you sell it or fix it.

8.     Do not Let Ugly Be Any Place in your Home

As the saying goes that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, same goes with ugliness. Do not think you can force yourself to like something, if you don’t, simply take it off.

9.     Do not Show too Personal Stuff

Do not swarm your place with showing too much personal collections. If you do not have enough space in your home, put them in a place where you can store them properly. You will be happy when it is time to clean up.

10.  Do not Forget the Specifications

Study details that makes a stylish design look you own and completely unique. Look for distinctive design that defines your character, arrange books neatly, place decorative pillows to your pieces and put scented candles and flowers.

All in all, design must reflect who and what you are. Enjoy each moment of planning, designing and incorporating it to the actual place or area of your home. So long as you are comfortable of where you live; friends, family and guests will feel that the moment they enter your home.  Happy Decorating!!!
