Do You Know Where to Place Accessories for Your Living Area?

These are a few basic tips on where to position and place your accessories for your living room. You have to agree with me when I say that many items are likely to be placed in a living room so it is vital to put together all items in a balanced way and that includes accessories that go with those items. If you are in this dilemma, fear not, here are a few ways on how to hang and place living room accessories.

Art Pieces

The typical place to hang accessories in the living area is above the sofa. If you are having the same space issues make sure to acquire a piece that is not too big or small. The piece of art should be about be two-thirds the width of the sofa.Remember when you are placing an art; it should be at eye-level. A lot of people make this error of hanging art too high and still need to lift your head up just to appreciate the piece.

Putting Sconces

It is basically using the same rule when you are placing a sconces and an art piece. It really varies on the size of the wall and not to hang it too eye just above-eye-level is perfect.

If you are hanging sconces on either side of an art or a mirror, make sure to allow sufficient space for the piece to breathe and not to look over crowded. Still the amount will vary on the space you are working on and avoid squishing items and over decorating it.

Windows Treatments

When you are installing curtains or drapes it should always touch the floor or puddle on it. It is not common to overlook that decorating part and hang the curtains too short because it only looks out of proportion and short.

Hanging a drapery rod or track must be at least 2 inches above the window frame and anywhere between 6” and 16” beyond each side.

Television

When you are still thinking where to put your television, keep this in mind: the base part of the screen should be on the level of your chest when you are in seating position. Though, it is in fashion to hang your television above a mantel, I still think that, that is not the best place you can put it because it is most likely to strain your neck when watching.

In your space, you can multiply the diagonal width of the television screen by three to know the optimal viewing distance in your home.

Remember, that above anything else, it is best that all items or designs in your living area must coincide with one another to create a balanced space. Avoid over accessorizing as this will only look cluttered or messy.
