In the olden times, people usually do their eating in the kitchen sitting on the floor.  Why? Because it is more easy to distribute the food when you are nearby the kitchen. Where there were big gatherings, people ate in the living area as if your dining space was often a completely different room. In the past, dining halls are placed with large tables and chairs, the most common shape is a rectangular with two armed end chairs and several unarmed on the sides.

The area of a dining hall depends on factors like the closeness to the living area, kitchen, washing area, etc. Ideally, the east, south or west sides are the preferred area. Typically, dining areas must be near the kitchen to ease the distribution of the food and must also be near the living area.

Here in the U.S., usually the dining room is always near the living room which is used only for dining on very special occasions. On ordinary meals, a smaller dining table is available near the kitchen where foods are served. Today most modest size flats do not have sufficient room for living and dining area, in condominiums, for example, where you working in a limited space, usually living and dining are integrated together to maximize the space.  Or they may an area adjacent to the kitchen where small tables and chairs are placed.

When you are thinking of creating a formal dining area, you need to put special attention to minute specifications beginning from window treatments down to the place mats. The variety of dining furniture must be inspired by a sense of grandness, class and beauty, of course. When you choose your colors for the walls, you can opt for a lighter shade like blue, light green, yellow, saffron, lighter shade of pink or orange. Adding a little touch of nature in your paintings creates a joyful ambiance.

Placing a mirror facing your table is seen as a help to improve the flow of good energy on the dining area. Like the belief of bountiful life as a sign of riches and good health. Putting a bowl as a center piece with lots of fresh fruits or crystals can also help you with the good vibes or chi in the area. The design, colors, art, pictures and wall papers, lighting, curtains, dining tables, table cloth, crockery and table wares and mirrors comprise the elements in creating beautiful and functional dining rooms.

The dining area is a place where you take your meals, spend time with your family and good friends where the flow of energy should be soft and gentle. It should be a place of serenity and peace not only for yourself but for the entire family and guests that stays.
