Having Guard Dogs as Home Security

Published by cravat | Filed under Buyer / Seller Tips, Miscellaneous, Real Estate, Uncategorized

Let us begin with the most obvious ground rule, you must love dogs and must be a dog person, if you are thinking of getting a dog of your own. This may sound funny, right? I am positive that there are people out there who got their own guard dog but now unwillingly want to take care of it. Simply because they did not weigh it out all the time and monetary commitments they were entering in.

Since the ground rule has been set and clearly out of the way, let us now discuss all about doggy dogs as a way to secure your property and lowering the danger of home assault from burglary. Here are the pros and cons:

GOOD
1. No need for any monthly fees for services on home security alarm system
2. Not because there is no monthly service fee, you are very bad dog owner if you do not feed and bathe your dog and bring him to the vet on a regular. Obviously, this will cost money for you.
3. A guard dog varies with their houses easily.
4. An added plus point for having a guard dog is that it is not wired or built onto the walls of your home. That means bring your pet with you if you needed relocation will be such a breeze.
5. If your dog or any other neighboring dog starts to bark, the entire stretch of your street with dogs on their homes will bark too.
6. But if you love sleeping or taking catnaps, the prior you may consider a bad thing but think about the level of noise that they create and guarantees any robber will be rushing to leave your home instantly.
7. Dogs’ sense of smell and motion are extremely sensitive, that is why, even before the robber comes close to your house, you will be alerted of their movements.

BAD
1. Guard dogs need a lot of training and your attention. It is like having another kid of your own.
2. Let us identify the attention needed: walking, feeding, obedience school and training. Carefully think about the time investment prior to taking this jump into getting a dog on your own.
3. Depending on the size of the dog but guard dogs are usually large breed which means they eat big portions too.
4. They are not robots or machines, they are not predictable
5. Professional burglars are good in making dogs confused by bringing some steak or anything they can use to distract the dog.
6. Dogs grow old too and 101% needs regularly veterinarian visits.
7. You pick up and clean their poop not unless you have a kind mom who usually does this thing. If none, are you okay to do that on your own?
8. Again, the monetary and time issues should be carefully weighed before jumping to the nearest pound.

These are all the pros and cons that I can think of in owning a guard dog but could be a lot more to learn when you already have one but I hope I was able to give you insights of what to expect. If all the good and bad out-weighed your intention of getting one, then, hurry and grab one to pet and train of your own.
